Lindsay's Story

I'm Lindsay, a wife and mother of two beautiful children. My passion is supporting women to become empowered during pregnancy, birth and the postnatal period.

I’ve always been drawn to work with people. For many years that work was in the retail or hospitality sectors, then public service. However, I have always felt I was missing ‘something’ but was never really sure exactly what that was.

It wasn’t until after I gave birth to our firstborn that I realised that I wanted to work more closely with women, specifically during pregnancy and birth. I became a doula and attended my first birth in June of 2011... and haven’t looked back.

I Loved Being A Doula, But Wanted More

Ever since that first birth when I witnessed an empowered mother believe in her body and surrender to the birth process, I was hooked.

At one point I considered studying to become a midwife, but I didn’t want to work in a clinical environment, where more time was spent doing paperwork, than being ‘with woman’.

The growth of a woman that I witnessed every time I supported a mum as a doula, was mind-blowing and I knew I wanted to empower even more women to ‘own their birth’.

I took a break from doula work when I became pregnant with our second baby, as it was really important for me to doula myself, as I would want for my clients.

Then I had the most AMAZING, and EMPOWERING birth I could EVER have imagined. I was 42 weeks and 1 day pregnant when our daughter arrived earthside. She chose to be born en route to the birth centre, in the boot of our station wagon, at a rest area on the highway. I was on an oxytocin high for weeks, if I could have bottled that feeling, I would have.

I Decided To Study

While I was on maternity leave, I did a lot of self-reflection on where I saw myself working with women. I loved doula work but was limited to the number of clients I could support and empower on their journey to motherhood. I decided that I wanted to educate, empower and support women in pregnancy and into birth and the only way to do that was to teach childbirth education.
